Privacy Policy

The plain-English deal: you can play without an account, we collect only what the game needs, our analytics are our own (no third-party trackers, no ads), and we never sell your data. The details follow.
1. The short version #
Emoji Bee is built by one independent developer, and the privacy posture is deliberately boring:
- You can play every day without ever giving us an email address.
- No ads. No third-party analytics SDKs. No cross-site tracking. We never sell your data.
- We collect what running a daily word game needs — your results, your streak, your score — and not much else.
- Payment details for Emoji Bee+ are handled by the payment platform (Apple on the App Store, Stripe on emojibee.com); we never see your full payment information.
2. What we collect #
An anonymous device account. The first time you play, we create an account identified by a random ID — no email, no name required. Everything below hangs off that account (or off your signed-in account once you link one).
Sign-in identity (only if you sign in). If you choose to sign in with Apple, Google, or an email magic link, we store the email address and/or the Apple or Google account identifier, and your device history is merged into that account.
Profile. A display name, initials, an avatar color, and — if you signed in with a provider that supplies one and you keep it — a profile photo from that provider.
Gameplay records. Your puzzle results, EQ ledger (how your score was earned), streaks, and hint usage. This is the game — without it there’s no score to keep.
First-party product analytics. Usage events (like app opens and feature usage) recorded in our own database, tied to your account. This is an in-house events table, not a third-party analytics service — no outside SDK ever sees it.
Purchase status. Whether your account holds a one-time Emoji Bee+ membership (either tier) — provided to us by the payment platform. We never receive your full card, bank, or Apple ID payment details. If you joined the Original Colony, we also store that membership; the OC badge is visible beside your name on leaderboards and friend surfaces (and nothing else about your purchase is).
Mailing address (Original Colony sticker only, and only if you want it). The sticker is a free gift mailed to Original Colony members. We collect the address by email, outside the app, use it only to mail the sticker, and don’t keep it afterwards.
3. What we use it for #
- Running the game: recording solves, computing your EQ and streaks (the server keeps the authoritative score), and syncing your progress across devices when you sign in.
- Keeping the game fair: results are verified server-side.
- Improving the product: our first-party analytics tell us which features get used and where players get stuck.
- Managing Emoji Bee+ memberships: knowing which accounts have access to member features, showing the Original Colony badge, and mailing the OC sticker to members who want it.
- Answering you when you email support.
4. Where your data lives (our processors) #
We’re a small operation running on well-known infrastructure. These providers process data on our behalf:
- Supabase — authentication and our database (accounts, gameplay records, analytics events).
- Vercel — hosting for emojibee.com.
- Resend — delivers our sign-in and account emails (like magic links) when you use email sign-in.
- Payment platforms — Apple for App Store purchases of Emoji Bee+, and Stripe for purchases on emojibee.com (both with RevenueCat, a purchase-management service, validating receipts and managing purchase state). They handle billing; we receive purchase status, not payment details.
We don’t share your data with anyone else, and we never sell or rent it.
5. Notifications #
Reminders in the iOS and Android apps are local notifications, scheduled entirely on your device. There is no push-notification server: nothing about your notification schedule leaves your phone, and turning them off is purely a device-side setting.
6. What we deliberately don’t do #
- No advertising, and no advertising identifiers.
- No third-party analytics or tracking SDKs in the app or on the site.
- No cross-site or cross-app tracking of any kind.
- No selling, renting, or trading your personal data — to anyone, ever.
7. How long we keep it #
We keep your account and gameplay data for as long as your account exists — a streak only means something if we remember it. If your account is deleted (see below), the personal data tied to it is deleted with it, except where we’re legally required to keep something (e.g., records of purchases).
8. Deletion and your choices #
Account deletion: you can delete your account and all of its data yourself, in the app: go to You → Manage account → Delete account. Deletion is immediate and permanent — your profile, EQ, streak, play history, and friendships are erased. If you’d rather we do it, email support@emojibee.com from the address on your account. The same address works for access or correction requests.
- You can play anonymously forever — signing in is optional.
- You can sign out at any time; the device keeps playing anonymously.
- Emoji Bee+ (either tier) is a one-time purchase — there’s no subscription to cancel; refunds are handled where you bought it (see the Terms of Use).
Depending on where you live, you may have additional legal rights over your data (access, portability, erasure, objection). Email us and we’ll honor them.
9. Children #
Emoji Bee is a general-audience game and is not directed at children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children under 13; if you believe a child has provided us personal information, email support@emojibee.com and we’ll delete it.
10. Changes to this policy #
If what we collect or how we use it changes — say, a new feature adds a new data flow — we’ll update this page and the “Last updated” date above, and we’ll flag material changes in the app or on the site.
11. Contact #
Emoji Bee is operated by Michael Pugh, an independent developer. For anything privacy-related, email support@emojibee.com.
